Bill Gadsby

William Alexander "Bill" Gadsby ( born August 8, 1927 in Calgary, Alberta ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player and coach, who from 1946 to 1966 for the Chicago Blackhawks, New York Rangers and the Detroit Red Wings in the National Hockey League played.

Career

Growing up in the years of the Second World War Gadsby was constantly a perennial and tough defender. During his junior time he went mainly for the Edmonton Canadians on the ice. Gadsby, who was already in his early years a supporter of the Chicago Blackhawks, was during this period of Chicago's scout Bill Tobin enlisted who was convinced of Gadsbys skills. Tobin presented him a contract offer for a total of 7,500 U.S. dollars and an additional 3,000 U.S. dollars bonus.

First, he was active for a minor league team from Kansas City before the Canadians debuted in the 1946/47 season for the Black Hakws in the National Hockey League. In the same season he beat Harry Lumley of the Detroit Red Wings one seconds left in the game when the defender hit the winning goal for the Hawks. While he played again and again in the All-Star team, but it never succeeded with one of his teams to win the Stanley Cup. 1956 was followed by the first nomination to the NHL First All -Star Team, the same managed Gadsby in the Windy City again in 1958 and 1959. During his career, the defender three times reached the jersey of the Red Wings the final series for the Stanley Cup, with the team in 1963 and 1964, the Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens defeated in 1966.

In the late 1960s he worked as a coach with the Detroit Red Wings. In 1970 he was honored with induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
