Bill Kroyer

William " Bill" Kroyer ( born November 25, 1950 in Chicago) is an American animator.

Life

Kroyer studied since the late 1960s at the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University journalism. Already during his studies he created numerous cartoons for the university newspaper and turned as part of a course that dealt with advertising, his first film. He finished his studies in 1972 and devoted himself then other films. Chuck Jones advised him to work as an animator. Kroyer 1975 went to Los Angeles, where he worked as animator an advertising firm. He competed at the 1976 Walt Disney Studios and was eventually incorporated into the training program from Disney, where he studied for two years under Eric Larson. Among his fellow students included, among others, Brad Bird and John Musker.

After the end of his training period Kroyer in 1977 set as an animator at the Disney Studios. To movies in which Kroyer was involved in the time include The Donkey of Bethlehem and Fox and the Hound. Kroyer left Disney and worked with Steven Lisberger first at The Jungle Olympics. His first major project was finally the computer-animated film Tron, in which Kroyer acted as senior animator, and was produced by Disney. Tron was released in 1982. Kroyer devoted himself from this time reinforced the computer animation and left Disney final. After two years as a freelance animator Kroyer was the animation studio Digital Productions, which specialized in computer animation. Here he created among other things, the video for Mick Jagger's Hard Woman. For a commercial for LBS Croyer won a Clio Award.

In 1986 Kroyer founded his own animation studio Kroyer Films. The aim was to combine computer animation and traditional animation. The first factory was established in 1988 resulting Technological Threat, which he co-wrote with Brian Jennings. The film was nominated for a 1989 Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film. It was followed by numerous commercials, but also works for movies like Honey, I Shrunk the Kids and The Making of Me From 1990 to 1992 Kroyer worked with a large team on long animated movie Fern Gully - Christa and Zak's adventures in the rainforest of around $ 22 million cost. In 1994 Kroyer gave up his own production company and went to Warner Bros. Feature Animation, where he worked until 1996. Beginning in 1997, was Kroyer animator at the Rythythm & Hues Studios, where he among other things on films such as Cats & Dogs - was involved as pets, and Scooby -Doo. Since 2009 he is head of the animation department of the Dodge College of Film and Media Arts at Chapman University in Orange. Kroyer sits on the board of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
