Bill Parker (comics)

William H. Parker Jr., usually abbreviated Bill Parker ( † 1963) was an American comic book writer and publishing editor. Parker is best known as the creator of the comic book character Captain Marvel.

Life and work

Parker began in the 1930s for the publisher Fawcett Publications to work, for which he initially was involved in Pulpmagazinen. From 1939, Parker was working for Fawcett Comics department, Fawcett Comics, for which he wrote on such series as Spy Smasher, Ibis the Sorcerer and especially Captain Marvel. The latter series, which first appeared as a feature in the series Whiz Comics, it became the biggest commercial success of Fawcett Comics in the 1940s and was at times the best selling comic book series of the United States.

The created by Parker and his artist CC Beck figure of magical superhero Captain Marvel aka Billy Batson is operating from Time Warner company, which acquired the rights to Captain Marvel through its subsidiary DC Comics in the late 1950s, marketed until today. In addition to countless comics about the character of Time Warner, among others, an animated series that aired in the 1970s, and produced various Spielzuegprodukte to Captain Marvel.

Parker's career as a comic book writer suffered a gash through his participation in the Second World War. He died in 1963.
