Bill Paterson (actor)

Bill Paterson ( born June 3, 1945 in Glasgow ) is a British actor.

Life and achievements

Paterson studied drama at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and. He made his debut in 1967 in a play at Glasgow Citizens Theatre. In the years 1970-1972 he worked at the Citizen 's Theatre for Youth as an actor and assistant director. He then worked for the 7:84 Theatre Company. The first film role was in the comedy The Odd Job from the year 1978.

The main role in the certification at the National Theatre play Schwekyk in the Second World War brought Paterson in 1982 was nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award. In the comedy Comfort and Joy (1984 ), he played the lead role. The main role in the miniseries The Crow Road ( 1996) brought him in 1997 the BAFTA Scotland Award. In the comedy Rag Tale ( 2005) he appeared alongside Rupert Graves, Malcolm McDowell and Jennifer Jason Leigh. In the biopic Miss Potter (2006), he was seen in a major role opposite Renée Zellweger and Ewan McGregor.

From 2009 to 2010 Paterson was one of the main characters of the series Law & Order: UK. From the 5th season he only comes into play on in a supporting role.

Paterson is married set designer Hildegard Bechtler with the German and has two children.
