Bill Skate

Sir William Jack Skate ( born September 26, 1953 in Port Moresby, † January 3, 2006 in Brisbane, Australia ) was a papua of New Guinea politician and statesman.

Life

He was Prime Minister from 1997 to 1999 and Speaker of the National Parliament of Papua New Guinea. His party, the People's National Congress ( PNC), was a coalition partner in the government of Michael Somare.

2005 Skate was knighted. He belonged to the United Church in Papua New Guinea.

He died of a stroke.
