Bill Stewart (musician)

William Harris "Bill" Stewart ( born October 18, 1966 in Des Moines, Iowa) is an American jazz drummer.

Stewart, who comes from a family of musicians, since the age of seven plays drums. He studied at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, where he played both in the orchestra and in various jazz and marching bands. From 1986 to 1988 he studied at William Patterson College with Dave Samuels, Rufus Reid and Harold Mabern. Here he met Joe Lovano and played his first recordings with Scott Kreitzer and poor Donelian one.

In 1988 he went to Brooklyn. Here he worked, inter alia, in a trio with Larry Goldings and Peter Bernstein. He collaborated on several albums Maceo Parker and was from 1990 to 1995 member of the band by John Scofield. Around the turn of the millennium, he played in a trio with Pat Metheny and Larry Grenadier. With Kevin Hays and Larry Goldings, he founded the Bill Stewart Trio.
