Bille August

Bille August ( born November 9, 1948 in Brede, Denmark ) is a Danish film director.

Life

Bille August completed after his photographer training in Stockholm 1976, the Danske Filmskole in Copenhagen. He has won several awards for his work. His film Pelle the Conqueror won an Oscar in 1989 for Best Foreign Film. Prior to 1988, he had already received the Palme d'Or for the film at the International Film Festival in Cannes.

The success in Cannes 1988 August could repeat at the International Film Festival in Cannes in 1992 with the best of intentions for the Ingmar Bergman wrote the screenplay. At the Berlinale 1997, his film Smilla's Sense of Snow ran in competition. 2007 Bille August won the "Cinema for Peace Award 2007 for Best Director" for the film Goodbye Bafana.

From 1991 to 1997 he was married to actress Pernilla August, who also appeared in some of his films. Together they have two children.
