Billy Beane

William Lamar "Billy" Beane III ( born March 29, 1962) is a former baseball player and since 1997 General Manager (GM ) of the Oakland Athletics.

Life and career

Beane grew up the son of a naval officer and showed early talent in various sports. As a 18- year-old he decided to use a professional baseball career and was committed in MLB Draft in 1980 by the New York Mets. He hit it out of an athletic scholarship to the prestigious Stanford University, which he later described as a big mistake. For the Mets to Beane could not prevail and switched to the Minnesota Twins, with whom he won the World Series in 1987, but completed the season across only 12 games for the A- team.
