Billy Boyo

Billy Boyo (born Billy Theophilus Rowe, born September 21, 1969 in Kingston, Jamaica; † 29 October 2000) was a child star - deejay of the early reggae dancehall.

Musical career

At age 12, Billy Boyo was 1981 Deejay for Volcano, the sound system of his brother Henry " Junjo " Lawes. In the same year his first maxi single was released called One Spliff a Day at the British record label Greensleeves Records, the melodramatic, but incorrect announcement Introducing Ten - year-old Billy Boyo! .

Junjo was the early 1980s, the most successful reggae producer of Jamaica. The vocals of its stars like Barrington Levy, Yellowman, Eek- A-Mouse and Toyan have been deposited with the hard, slow sound of the Roots Radics and mixed by Scientist. With this recipe for success in 1982 Billy Boyos first album DJ Clash Volume 2 was recorded with Little Harry for Greensleeves and sold with medium success in Europe. In the same year another six maxi singles were released under the label.

Child stars are a well known phenomenon in the Jamaican music scene. Coinciding with Billy Boyo were active for Junjo also Little Harry and only then 10 years old and later globally successful Beenie Man.

1983 emerged also for the British label Silver camel during a visit by Billy Boyo in London six shots that were published two years after his death, on the CD Zim Zim until 2002. The six songs are arranged in the showcase style along with the ranking produced by Trevor Dubs.

After every publication for Captain Sinbad, Jah Thomas and Rusty Billy Boyo ended his brief career as a dancehall deejay.

Billy Boyo died on October 29, 2000 from a brain tumor after a two- month battle against the disease.

Style

There are only pictures of Billy Boyos bright boy soprano before his voice broke. He did not sing, he deejayte, rapping about given riddims. Although equipped with a good sense of rhythm, he met not always the right tone - as in children's voices is often the case.

Lyrically Billy Boyo had nothing Profound to say: His songs were about girls (Wicked She Wicked, Look How She Fat ), Dancehall ( Zim Zim, disc jockey ) or simply about himself ( Billy Boyo on the Go, Billy Boyo in the Area).

The British publications are rated, on the live recording of October 1982 together with the sound system Aces International in 82 Chisholm Ave. Kingston is heard but the genuine Billy Boyo: With quäkender boy's voice he sings the girl Dana, whom he only beats a black eye and then with his two pair of balls and a long long body impressed ( ). And of course, she wants only one thing: ' Push it inna me! ', She say ' Push it inna me! '.
