Billy Butler (guitarist)

William " Billy" Butler ( * December 15, 1925 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, † March 20, 1991 in Teaneck, New Jersey) was an American guitarist of rhythm and blues and soul jazz.

Life and work

Billy Butler began his career in 1947 in the backing of a vocal group, The Harlemaires, after which he headed from 1949 to 1952 own formations. In the 1950s he worked with Harry "Doc" Bagby (1953 ) and Bill Doggett ( 1954-1961 ), with whom he collaborated in 1956 its biggest R & B hit composed, " Honky Tonk ".
