Billy Duffy

Billy Duffy ( born May 12, 1961 in Manchester, England when William Henry Duffy ) is a British guitarist who became famous with the rock band The Cult in the 1980s and 1990s. He is next to Ian Astbury founding member and songwriter of The Cult. He was also the beginning of the 1980s, a member of Theatre of Hate and The Nosebleeds, later he founded Circus Diablo with.

Career

Duffy grew up in Manchester and learned to play the guitar at the age of 14 years. In 1977 he played with the late frontman of The Smiths, Morrissey, in the band The Nosebleeds. Latter encouraged Duffy to sing, as he brought guitarist Johnny Marr to play the guitar.

After the peak of the punk phase Duffy played by interludes at Slaughter & the Dogs, Studio Sweethearts and Lonesome No More for the reticent Theatre of Hate. He met the frontman of the Southern Death Cult, Ian Astbury. After a first common phase in 1983 as they called themselves Death Cult Duffy's liking from 1984 The Cult. Duffy also created his own sound with a Gretsch White Falcon from the 1970s. Later he also played regularly a Gibson Les Paul.

There followed the great successes with The Cult in the 1980s with the albums Love, Electric and Sonic Temple. It also Duffy's guitar sound, especially with Rick Rubin's influence from Electric, into a tougher direction changed. After the less successful time as a duo in the early 1990s and the temporary separation of Astbury Duffy played with Mike Peters of The Alarm in a project called Colour Sound, which released a self-titled album. 1999 Duffy reformed The Cult with Astbury, 2001, he published comeback Beyond Good and Evil. Following the band was once again on hold as Ian Astbury in 2002 an offer was singing with The Doors.

2006 Duffy was given a role in the unreleased film Sin -Jin Smyth by Ethan Dette Maier. In the same year he founded with former The- Cult bassist Billy Morrison tour as a singer Circus Diablo. Matt Sorum played drums, Ricky Warwick, the rhythm guitar. Appeared in 2007, the current The- Cult- album Born into This.
