Billy Fury

Billy Fury ( born April 17, 1940 in Liverpool, † January 28, 1983 in London), Ronald William Wycherley actually, was a British rock and roll singer from the Liverpool Mersey -beat environment.

Biography

With 11 years of piano lessons Wycherley received, three years later, he got a guitar. One of his jobs after school was on the tractor Formby, where he met with sailors from the USA, the country and western music. He founded the Formby Sniffle Group, which played in local cafes.

1957 wrote Wycherley for Margo King, the piece Margo ( Do not Go ). In 1958 he made ​​demo recordings, which he also sent the music manager Larry Parnes. Parnes signed him and gave him the name Billy Fury.

The first single from Billy Fury Maybe Tomorrow, rose in the charts in the Top 20 's first album Sound Of Fury is still regarded by many fans as the best of Billy Fury.

It was followed by other hits, including Halfway To Paradise (1961, point 3 ) and Jealousy (1961 No. 2), but never gave it to number 1, but had Fury in the 1960s more Top 20 hits than most other performers and groups, surpassed only by the Beatles, Cliff Richard and Elvis Presley.

In 1976, a second heart surgery. In March 1982 he had a severe heart attack, with paralysis and temporary blindness.

Billy Fury died on January 28, 1983 of complications from heart failure.
