William Lewis Shaw ( * December 15, 1938 in Natchez, Mississippi) is a former American professional American football player. He played as a guard in the American Football League (AFL ) for the Buffalo Bills.

Youth

Billy Shaw first attended in a small town at Vicksburg High School. Until the school stopped the match operation of the football team, Shaw played there as an end. The father of Shaw was a college football player at the University of Mississippi and moved the family then to Vicksburg, where Billy played at Carr Central High School as a defensive tackle and offensive tackle for the school team. In his last year of school Shaw was elected as the All-American team and was nominated for the Georgia Tech 's All- Time.

Playing career

College career

Billy Shaw studied from 1958 to 1960 at the Georgia Institute of Technology. As a defensive tackle, he played for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Football. In 1960 he was able to move with his team in the Gator Bowl, where the team, however the University of Arkansas was defeated with 14:7. In his last year of school Shaw was elected as the All-American team and was nominated for the Georgia Tech 's All- Time. Because of his athletic achievements, he was honored by his college in all three years of study. In 1961, Billy Shaw received a calling for the College All- Star Game. He was initially intended as a replacement for defensive tackle Bob Lilly. Otto Graham, who coached the team from the College All-Stars, Shaw moved to the position of Guards, after Houston Antwine, who was provided for this position, had been injured. Shaw convinced on this position, he could not prevent the defeat of the College All-Stars against the reigning NFL champion Philadelphia Eagles.

Professional career

Billy Shaw was in 1961 by the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League (NFL ), which were coached by Tom Landry, in the selected round 14 to 184 instead of the NFL Draft. At the same time chose him, trained by Buster Ramsey Buffalo Bills in the second round to the eleventh place of the AFL Draft. After Shaw was announced that the Cowboys wanted to use him as a linebacker, he saw his future, however, as a guard, he decided to create a contract was signed with the team out of Buffalo. Ramsey sat Shaw as a blocker for its own running backs, also he had the task of protecting at passing trains his own quarterback.

In 1962, Lou Saban took over as coach for the Bills, succeeded him out of the team to form a top team. In the years 1962 and 1963 succeeded the Bills, the two quarterbacks Jack Kemp and Daryle Lamonica to bind to the team. In the season 1964 Billy Shaw won twelve out of 14 games with the Bills in the regular season and they went with it in the AFL Finals, where they faced the San Diego Chargers. The Bills left with a 20:7 win the game field.

After the Regular Season 1965 Shaw was again able to move into the AFL Finals, where they met again on the Chargers with the Bills. This time the final game ended with a 23:0 victory for the Bills. Shaw failed in his third collection in the AFL Finals in 1966 with his team at the Kansas City Chiefs with 31:7. Billy Shaw suffered before the 1967 season a serious knee injury which meant that he was able to participate in this year only nine games. He finished his career after the 1969 season.

Honors

Billy Shaw played eight times in the AFL All- Star game, the final game of the best players of the season. He was nine times elected to the All- AFL and is a member of the AFL All- Time Team in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame, in the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame and the Georgia Tech Athletics Hall of Fame. The Buffalo Bills honor him on the Wall of Fame and not forgive his shirt number. Shaw is the only player who has spent his entire professional career in the AFL and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

After the career

Shaw returned to his career back to Georgia and was with his own company active in the construction industry. He sat down to rest in 2005. Shaw is married and has three daughters. He now lives in Toccoa, Georgia.
