Billy Twomey

Billy Twomey ( born April 14, 1977 in Cork) is an Irish show jumper.

In February 2012, he is in the show jumping world ranking of FEI ranked 17th He is the world's currently the second most successful show jumpers in Ireland.

Career

Billy Twomey grew up in Cork in southern Ireland and learned in early youth ride. In Ireland he won as a teenager several titles in jumping. Later he moved to the Netherlands, where he was coached by Albert Voorn. As a result, he moved to Britain, where he was trained by Michael Whitaker. Today he lives on the premises of its sponsors, Sue and Eddie Davies, in Pewit Hall, Nantwich, Cheshire.

As a young rider, he participated in the European Championships for his age group for the years 1997 and 1998 in part. For years, Twomey is part Irish Nations Cup teams, in 2000, he was part of the shortlist for the Summer Olympics. In 2003 he participated with Luidam at the European Championships in Donaueschingen, 2006 also followed with Luidam attending the World Equestrian Games in Aachen.

In April 2008, he lost his horse Pikap by a fall during a tournament in Grobbendonk. The colt broke his leg, burying his rider among themselves. As a result of the accident, the mold had to be euthanized. Twomey, who was unconscious after the fall of almost three quarters of an hour, was hospitalized with a broken leg, broken ribs and head injuries in the hospital and had to pause for six months.

In 2010 he took part in World Equestrian Games for the second time. In Lexington, he finished in eleventh place here with his best individual placing at an international championship. With Tinka 's Serenade, he participated in the European Championships 2011 in Madrid.

Among his greatest single achievement of this in addition to victories in the CSI / CSIO 5 * Grand Prix of St. Gallen ( 2009), Basel ( 2011) and Zurich (2011), the victory of the World Top 10 Finals of 2011.
