Binga District

Binga is a place of about 3,000 inhabitants on the uppermost part of the Kariba dam in the province of Matabeleland North in Zimbabwe, an administrative center of the district of the same name. The village was founded in order to resettle the Tonga of the Zambezi Valley after the construction of the Kariba Dam. The Tonga subjected in the 15th and 16th centuries from Malawi here and had led an isolated life in the reasonably fertile floodplain of the Sambesitalsohle protected difficult to access, high rock walls, away from tribal feuds.

Binga and Kariba are the only ports in Zimbabwe. There are primary and secondary schools in Binga. There is electricity. A computer project " Tonga.Online " was last successfully started, as can be seen also among the links. Nevertheless, the Karibadistrikte Binga and Nyaminyami are the least developed in the country. The area is dry despite the Zambezi. The floor does not contribute much and what he is wearing is too often destroyed by wild animals that also infect with their illnesses the animal stocks. The integration into the highly competitive tourism business of the Victoria Falls and the nearby safari destinations such as Hwange National Park seems to be possible only on the production of folkloric souvenirs.

Near Binga are the hot springs of Chibwatatata ( Chibwatatata Hot Springs ).
