Biniou

The BINIOU is a Breton bagpipe. There are two types.

Firstly, the BINIOU Kozh ( bret.: old bagpipe), also referred to as BINIOU bihan (small bagpipe). It is about an octave higher the Great Highland Bagpipes voted as and sounds very shrill. It consists of a drone and a chanter. The latter has seven permanent front finger holes and covers about ten sounds being played from the octave by overblowing. The drone is two octaves lower voted as the tonic of the chanter. Traditionally, the BINIOU is Kozh played in duet with the Bombard, who stars profound usually the same melody an octave.

(: Great bagpipe bret. ) found their way into Breton music, while the BINIOU Kozh increasingly displaced addition, the Great Highland Bagpipe has since the 1930s as BINIOU bras.
