Binot Paulmier de Gonneville

Paul Mier de Gonneville, actually Binôt Paul Mier, Seigneur de Gonneville (* 15th century in Dieppe, France, † 16th century in Gonneville -sur- Honfleur) was a French navigator.

On his trip to the " South Sea " from 1503 to 1505 and on the search for the " Southland " ( Terra Australis ) in 1504, he had reached the coast of Brazil, which he described as " South India " and " parrot country." As a result of the loss of his ship journals he could, however, give any details on his return. It was not until 1847, a copy was found, which confirmed the localization in Brazil.

From Brazil Gonneville brought an Indian native to France, which he called Essoméric. Since the French Government Essoméric not sent back again, Gonneville but felt connected to him, he gave him his daughter and heiress to the woman, so made him his son.
