Biolab

The Biolab is a laboratory for biological experiments aboard the Columbus space laboratory ESA. It is constructed in the form of an International Standard Payload Rack.

The Biolab rack support biological experiments on micro-organisms, cells, tissue cultures, plants and small invertebrates. Here are the role and the influence of gravity on the different levels of life - are examined - until the plant or insect by the cell.

The biological test samples are contacted with an organic container to the International Space Station (ISS) and placed there manually into the Biolab. The assays can be partially performed automatically. The typical scan duration ranges from a single day up to three months.
