Bioley -Orjulaz is a municipality in the district of Gros- de -Vaud in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland. The name suffix Orjulaz used to distinguish the community Bioley- Magnoux.

Geography

Bioley -Orjulaz is located on 603 m above sea level. M., 3.5 km south-west of Echallens and 11 km north of the canton capital Lausanne ( straight line ). The farming village stretches along the eastern foot of a hill on the plateau of Gros de Vaud, in the Vaud Mittelland.

The area of ​​3.1 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the gently undulating plateau of Gros de Vaud, the granary of the canton of Vaud. In the western part of the municipality is located on the hills of Bioley -Orjulaz, on 621 m above sea level. M. the highest point of the municipality is reached. To Bioley -Orjulaz include a new residential area on the southern slope of the hill village and an industrial area west of the village hill on the edge of the gravel pit. Population

With 457 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Bioley -Orjulaz is one of the small communities of the Canton of Vaud. Of the 93.1 % inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 2.4 % and 1.4 % Spanish speaking (as of 2000). The population of Bioley -Orjulaz amounted in 1850 to 245 residents in 1900 to 220 inhabitants. Since 1980 (181 inhabitants) a significant increase in population was observed.

Economy

Bioley -Orjulaz until the 20th century, a predominantly coined by farming village. Today, the farming and fruit growing have only a minor role in the occupational structure of the population. History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1192 under the name Oriola, derived from the Latin word aureolus ( golden ). Later, the names Biolley published orjeux ( 1516) and Bioley- Orjioulaz (1527 ). Bioley goes back to the French word Boulaie ( Birch Grove ).

Since the Middle Ages the village belonged to the lords of Echallens, which gave the forest of Orjulaz the Abbey Lac de Joux (L' Abbaye ) to use. After the Burgundian Wars, the village came in 1476 at the Bailiwick Orbe Echallens, which was under the general rule of Bern and Fribourg. After the collapse of the ancien régime Bioley -Orjulaz belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud. 1798 was assigned to the District Echallens.

Attractions

The village belongs to the parish of Assen. Since 1903 there is a Reformed Church in Bioley -Orjulaz. In the center are some typical farmhouses dating from the 18th and 19th centuries have been preserved. Noteworthy are several memory including a memory stone with Renaissance windows of 1720 and a wooden granary from the 17th century.
