Biological museum (Stockholm)

The Biological Museum (Swedish Biologiska Museet ) is located on Djurgården in Stockholm, showing Scandinavian mammals and birds in their natural environment. All animals are stuffed.

The Biological Museum is located on Djurgården, next to the former main entrance Hazelius Porten to the Skansen Open Air Museum. It was founded in 1893 by the curator Gustav Kolthoff and has been designed by architect Agi Lindgren in the style of a stave church. The museum displays in the upper floor is a collection of prepared Scandinavian mammals and birds in lifelike scenes and sceneries. The running around the entire exhibition hall contiguous cyclorama, a so-called Diorama, comes from the Swedish animal painter Bruno Liljefors. On the ground floor an ice cave on Spitsbergen and a valley in eastern Greenland are simulated. A total of 299 different species are on display, many of which are still in their original state, ie have never been restored. The museum was a great crowd at the Stockholm Exhibition in 1897 and was not demolished after the exhibition. For the 100th anniversary in 1993, the Biological Museum has been thoroughly renovated.
