BioMed Central ( BMC) is a commercial scientific magazine publisher in the UK, which publishes more than 200 Open Access journals in the field of biology and medicine. It was founded in April 2000. As an open -access publisher BioMed Central is in contrast to traditional publishers such as Elsevier or Springer -Verlag all scientific publications free of charge available on the internet. The costs are covered by fees, which carries the one who published. Publications are doing an equally demanding peer review subjected to traditional trade publishers. In October 2008, BioMed Central by Springer Science Business Media was acquired.
