Biot (Alpes-Maritimes)

Biot is a commune in southeastern France in the Alpes - Maritimes ( 06) of the Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur region, with 9751 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011). Together with Antibes, Mougins, Valbonne and Vallauris it forms the technology park Sophia Antipolis. The city is known mainly for its glass blowing and the Museum Fernand Léger.

Geography

The city is located in the southeast of France, between Villeneuve- Loubet and Cannes. The historic core focuses on the summit of a hill while newer settlements, including Biot 3000 are located at the foot.

History

Presumably the area around Biot was settled for the first time of Ligurians in the second century before Christ. The Roman consul Quintus Opimius conquered the city in 154 BC and placed the region of the city Antipolis, Antibes today.
