Birao

Prefecture

Birao is a town in northern Central African Republic. It is the capital of the Vakaga Prefecture. Their population was estimated at 9,800 in 2000, 2007 is calculated to be at 10,300.

History

In March 2007, the city in fighting in the region was almost completely burned down. Government soldiers and French warplanes had attacked them after it had come to rebel activities because of abuses in the region.

On 24 November 2010 the Convention of Patriots for Justice and Peace ( CPDP ) conquered the city. Only after a week she could be re-captured from government forces. In this case, the Air Force flew Chad attacks.
