Birgit Breuel

Birgit Breuel ( born September 7, 1937 in Hamburg- cracks as Birgit münchmeyer ) is a German politician (CDU ), former president of the THA and Commissioner General of Expo 2000 in Hanover, later active in numerous honorary positions.

Biography

Birgit münchmeyer originally comes from a Lower Saxony, Hamburg since 1816 family of merchants and private bankers, and is the daughter of the merchant bankers and Alwin münchmeyer Younger (1908-1990), including the owner of the trading and banking house münchmeyer & Co. in Hamburg and President of DIHT, and Gertrud Nolte ( 1914-2007 ). She married on 8 August 1959, Hamburg businessman Ernst -Jürgen Breuel (born 7 October 1931 in Hamburg). Her son Nicholas was until November 2010 CEO of DB AG distance transport.

Birgit Breuel first studied political science at the Universities of Hamburg, Oxford and Geneva, but without a degree. In 1966, the trained retail saleswoman in the CDU. From 1970 until her resignation on 28 June 1978 she was a member of the Hamburg Parliament. From 1978 to 1986 she was in Lower Saxony Minister for Economy and Transport, until 1990 Lower Saxon Minister of Finance. After taking office she reached the first woman to the official launch of the official title of Minister. 1990 Breuel was elected to the Board of Trust Agency, a year later she followed the assassinated Detlev Rohwedder as President of THA after. She retired in 1995 from this office. Then Birgit Breuel was Commissioner General for Expo 2000 in Hanover.

The ARD produced and broadcast in 2009 on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Berlin Wall, a documentary about Breuels work as a trustee boss. It is entitled The trustee.
