Birgit Collin-Langen

Birgit Collin Long ( born September 4, 1956 in Trier ) is a German politician ( CDU). She was from 1996 to 2012 Mayor of the town of Bingen am Rhein, since March of 2012 she is a member of the European Parliament.

Collin -Langen studied law in Trier and then worked as a trainee at the District Court of Trier. After placing the second legal state examination she has been a lecturer at the Department of Economics and Transport of Rhineland- Palatinate. In 1988, she went to the State Chancellery, where she worked as a legal adviser and was responsible for improving the relationship between citizens and the state. In the early 1990s she was a research fellow of the parliamentary group of the CDU. In 1993 she joined the investment and banking structure Rhineland -Palatinate, where she was Head of Human Resources and Legal.

August 1, 1996 Collin -Langen took up her post as mayor of the town of Bingen am Rhein. She is chairwoman of the Women's Union of Rhineland- Palatinate, deputy chairman of the CDU district of Rheinhessen - Pfalz as well as a co-opted member of the State Executive Committee. She was also a member of the 14th Federal Assembly. She was also deputy chairman of the Association of Cities Rhineland -Palatinate, Vice-President of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of Europe and the euro Vice-President of the German Section of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions. During the parliamentary election campaign in 2011 Collin -Langen was as Minister for Justice and Home Affairs in the shadow cabinet of Julia Klöckner.

In March 2012, Collin -Langen resigned her position as Lord Mayor of Bingen, since she moved to the European Parliament. She moved there after for Kurt Lechner, who resigned from his position due to age. In September 2012, the European Parliament lifted the immunity of deputies, as the Koblenz public prosecutor determined in Bingen against them for charges of bribery in connection with the State Garden Show 2008. The case was closed in September 2013.

Since 2012 Collin -Langen is a member of the Foundation Board of Trustees of Fridtjof Nansen Academy for Political Education in the Education Center Ingelheim.

Birgit Collin -Langen is married to lawyer Jochen Langen. The couple has a son.

Collin -Langen is a member of the Group of the European People's Party, the Christian Democrats. The Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection and the Delegation for relations with India, she is a member. As Deputy Collin -Langen is represented in the following committees and delegations: Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs, Committee on Petitions, Delegation for relations with the Mashreq countries and the Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean
