Birgit Kober

Birgit Kober (* July 10, 1971 in Munich ) is a German disabled athlete.

Life

Kober grew up in Munich. In conjunction with antibiotic treatment, she was hard of hearing at 16, with 17 the first time she got epileptic seizures. She moved to the Ruhr area, there to attend a school for the hearing impaired in Essen.

She then studied medicine and education. In 2006, she interrupted her studies to care for her cancer-stricken mother, who died in April 2007. In June 2007, she suffered a status epilepticus, which was treated in hospital. There, the doctors underwent a treatment failure, as a result, she suffered a severe ataxia and since then is confined to a wheelchair.

She lives on welfare and is in a dispute with a Munich hospital on compensation for their ataxia.

Sports

2008, Kober Member of TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen. In 2011 she won at the World Championships in Christchurch the gold medal in the javelin and shot put disciplines. In 2012 she won gold at the European Championships in Stadkanaal in javelin and shot put and won in the same year at the Summer Paralympics in London in their two disciplines.

In 2012 she was named the " disabled athlete 2012".
