Birgit Peter

Birgit Peter ( born January 27, 1964 in Potsdam) is a former rower, which was established in 1988 for the East German Olympic gold medalist in the double sculls and 1992 for Germany Olympic champion in the quadruple sculls.

Her career began in 1982 as a Junior World Champion in the quadruple sculls. The rower of the SG Dynamo Potsdam trained with Jutta Lau and 1985 World Champion for the first time in the adult class, along with Kristina Mundt, Jutta Hampe and Ramona Balthasar, she won the title in the quadruple sculls. In 1986 the boat was reorganized and won with Jana Sorgers, Kerstin Hinze, Birgit Peter and Kerstin Pieloth again the world title. The following year, Jutta Hampe returned for Kerstin Hinze back into the boat and Birgit Peter won her third world title in a row. In 1988, Peter in the double sculls at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, she won along with Martina Schröter gold. For this victory, she was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in gold.
