Birgitz

Birgitz is a municipality with 1305 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district of Innsbruck Land in Tirol ( Austria ). The municipality is located in the judicial district of Innsbruck.

Geography

The place is situated on a low mountain range about ten kilometers southwest of Innsbruck, at the foot of the 2,404 m high Kalkkögel Saile ( Nockspitze ).

High settlement growth in recent decades led to growing together with Götzens.

Birgitz today as the other communities of the central mountain range the function of a residential community in the catchment area of Innsbruck.

The municipality is a member of the Climate Alliance Tyrol.

The last mayor elections took place simultaneously with the local elections on March 14, 2010.

Luis Oberdanner was elected mayor and Heinrich Gottfried Haid as vice mayor. This was decided in a runoff election.

Coat of arms

The green stages in the emblem symbolize the giant stairs called patio area in the municipality Birgitz. The Celtic fibula points to the extensive pre-Christian settlement finds in the municipality.
