Birgte

Birgte is a part of the town Hörstel in the region of the country Tecklenburg Steinfurt (North Rhine -Westphalia).

Location

Birgte is located on the southern side of the Teutoburg Forest on the Dortmund- Ems Canal. The highest elevation is the Birgter mountain, part of the Teutoburg Forest.

History

In the year 1088 the peasantry was first mentioned in a document called " Birgithi ". The first school there from 1846 in Birgte. Since the end of the 19th century, the Dortmund -Ems Canal separates the peasantry from the slope of the Teutoburg Forest. On July 5, 1906 a new chapel was dedicated. The faces of the peasantry are used mainly agricultural and forestry. There are in Birgte new housing development areas, a commercial area extends to the local situation of giant Beck. Until 1 January 1975 Birgte was a district of giant basin in the district of Tecklenburg.
