The community association Birkenfeld is an administrative unit in the legal form of a public body, composed of the city of Birkenfeld and 30 independent local churches. The seat of the municipal administration is in Birkenfeld. The municipality is located in the district of Birkenfeld, in Rhineland -Palatinate at the edge of the Saarland. It lies between the Hunsrück and the North Palatine Uplands north of the Nahe.
