Birresborn is a municipality in the volcanic Eifel region of Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Gerolstein. Birresborn is a nationally recognized resort.

Geography

Birresborn is about 6 km south of Gerolstein to 350 m above sea level. NHN in Kylltal.

To Birresborn include sour water, the cabin forest frieze and the suburb of Rome.

Neighboring municipalities are (from north clockwise): Gerolstein 7 km, Michel Bach (part of Gerolstein ) 4 km, Salm 8 km, Mürlenbach 4 km, 4 km and Kopp Büdesheim 9 km.

Mineral sources

Adonis source

The Adonis source lies in the middle of the village and has been closed since November 2003 because of contamination. The source also present temple near the Kyllbrücke, drunk in the last to free the mineral water of Adonis source and could be filled is, since closed.

Linde source

The Linde source is located approximately four kilometers north of Birresborn on the way to Gerolstein. The still remaining source pavilion is a listed building and has been restored since July 3, 2009 and also the mineral water bubbles up again. Of the impurities of Adonis source Linde source is not affected. Here is now year-round free drinking water and of course bottled.

History

The place name may be the earliest dating back to the 7th century and probably goes back to the Old High German citi = flat, house. He appears secured for the first time in 762 as Birgisburias Carasco in a deed of King Pippin the Younger for the monastery of Prüm on. The Birresborner range of Kylltales was probably not inhabited during the Roman era. Due to the extensive archaeological discoveries in the surrounding hills, however, is to start from the Roman period settlement for this.

The blazon is: " Azure, on a silver three- Berg, in an oblique left green oak leaf, a silver fountain quadrisected water jet ".

The fountain indicates " Born" (well) in place names, as well as the mineral and medicinal springs, the three mountain with the oak leaf symbolizes the wooded and mountainous surroundings of the place.
