Birrhard

Birrhard ( in the local dialect: Birret, pɪr ː ət ) is a municipality in the district of Brugg in the canton of Aargau. It is located about five kilometers south-east of the district municipal seat.

Geography

The long road village is situated on the eastern edge of the extensive and intensively farmed Birrfelds. The village consists of the districts in the south of Oberndorf, sub- village in the center and Inlauf in the north. Just east of the development level drops down to the banks of the Reuss, the height difference amounts to about fifty meters. The Reuss forms the eastern boundary of the municipality and here flows through a one hundred meter wide gorge.

The area of the municipality is 300 hectares, of which 101 hectares are forested and built over 37 hectares. The highest point is 412 meters, the deepest at 340 meters on the river Reuss.

Neighboring municipalities are Mülligen in the north, Birmenstorf in the east, and Wohlenschwil Mägenwil in the south, southeast, and Brunegg in Birr and Lupfig in the West.

History

The first mention of Birharth place in the year 1254th The village name comes from the Old High German Birichahard and means " birch forest ". Birrhard belonged in the Middle Ages for its own office, the oldest possession of the Counts of Habsburg, whose headquarters is just a few kilometers away.
