Biryusinsk

Birjussinsk (Russian Бирюсинск ) is a city in Irkutsk Oblast (Russia) with 8981 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located in the southwest of Birjussaplateaus in the northern foothills of Sayan, about 680 km north-west of Irkutsk Oblasthauptstadt at the Birjussa, the left frontal flow of Tassejewa in the basin of the Angara.

Birjussinsk belongs to Rajon Taischet whose administrative center Taischet is a good 10 km away.

The city lies on the Trans-Siberian Railway ( 4503 line kilometers from Moscow). South of the city, the railway runs Südsibirische ( station Tagul ). Five kilometers east of Birjussinsk crosses the highway M53 Novosibirsk - Irkutsk - Listvyanka the Birjussa.

History

The village was founded with the construction of various works in the 20th century as a workers' settlement Sujeticha, named after a small tributary of the Birjussa. In 1967 he was granted city rights under the present name.
