Bisaccia

Bisaccia is an Italian town with 3870 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) and until the 16th century bishop's seat in the province of Avellino. It is part of the Comunità Montana Alta Irpinia Bergkomune. It was destroyed in the earthquake of 1980 and rebuilt in the vicinity of the historic village.

In ancient times the city was a city of the Samnites and bore the name Romulea.

The castle of Bisaccia comes from the Lombards, and was restored by the Emperor Frederick II, who was hunting in the forests of Bisaccia.
