Bisacquino
Bisacquino is a city in the province of Palermo in the Italian region Sicily, with 4761 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).
Location and data
Bisacquino is located 80 km south of Palermo. The inhabitants mainly work in agriculture. The main products are livestock, cereals, olive oil and to a lesser extent wine, almonds and nuts. Other important economic factors are the reforestation of Monte Triona and care of the vast forest area.
The neighboring municipalities are Caltabellotta (AG), Campofiorito, Chiusa Sclafani, Contessa Entellina Corleone, Giuliana, Monreale, Roccamena and Sambuca di Sicilia ( AG).
History
The community dates back to Arab origin, here once was an Arab village. From 1183 to 1778 ruled the Bishops of Monreale in Bisacquino.
Attractions
The three-nave parish church with dome La Matrice was built in 1713. The Sanctuary of the Madonna del Balzo is located on Monte Triona at an altitude of 950 m. Worth seeing is the municipal museum in the former Monastery Chiesa dei Cappuccini. In the vicinity of the town are the ruins of the Abbey of Santa Maria del Bosco di Calatamauro, as well as the remains of the early Arab settlement fortified Castello Batellaro. Moreover, you find the place the restored mill Mulino Vaccarizzotto in typical construction in the area.
