Geographical Location

Bishop corn in the region Danube - forest in the heart of the Bavarian Forest in a small, surrounded by wooded hills valley at the foot of the mountains Geißkopf, Einödriegel, width- bolt and Devil's Table. The village is located about 9 km south of the county town of Regen, 17 km north of Deggendorf and 19 km from Zwiesel. The nearest train station is 8 km away in Triefenried, there holds the forest path and provides connections with Plattling and Bavarian Eisenstein reliable hourly.

Through the confluence of Hermann Bach and Entenaubach arises in Bischofsmais the castle Ohe.

History

On behalf of the Bishop of Passau monks cleared from the monastery Niederaltaich centuries ago the rough " Nortwald " to make it arable. The former form of the grubbing called " maizzen ". From this relationship, then emerged in the course of time the name "Bishop corn ". The town first appeared in 1136 under Perthold of Piscolfesmaez in a document on.

The place was on a mule, the Böhmweg, and wandering merchants and traders, the so-called " mule trains ", used it to exchange furs, grains and especially salt between Bavaria and Bohemia can.
