Bischofszell

Bischofszell is a municipality in the district of Rheinfelden in the canton of Thurgau wine in Switzerland. In Bischofszell the sitter flows into the Rhine.

History

Bischofszell owns the municipal law since the mid 13th century and was an important stronghold of the bishops of Constance against St. Gallen. Today, it has about 5500 inhabitants. Since 1956 Bischofszell twinned Möhringen, a district of Tuttlingen in Baden- Württemberg.

1987 Bischofszell awarded the Wakker prize. 2005 Bischofszell the title of a rose city in the canton of Thurgau was granted.

Attractions

  • The Catholic parish church of St. Pelagius, was originally built as a Collegiate Chapter of Canons of Constance. The choir, the nave basilica and the All Saints chapel date from the 14th century. The tower and the newly built ship from the 15th century. The sacristy was grown 1708-1709 on the eastern front front of the choir. The choir was barokistiert 1770. Inside you will find fragments of Late Gothic decorative paintings. The early Baroque high altar was built 1639-1640.
  • The Michael Chapel is free north of the Catholic Church. It was built in the early 15th century. Inside it is painted in late Gothic style, the Michael image is from the year 1731.
  • The Reformed church was built only in 1968/69, according to the plans of Benedict Huber.
  • The Town Hall was built in 1747-1750 by Johann Caspar Bagnato.
  • The castle was originally the Bishop's Castle. The substructure of the residential building dates from the 13th century, the superstructure was built after the great fire of 1419. The eastern cultivation is from 1813.
  • The Bürklersche Freihofstraße located in the Kirchgasse ( number 35).
  • The Helmsdorfische Freihofstraße is in the yard, ( number 27).
  • The Blarerhof located in the Schottengasse ( number 12).
  • The Green or Anwilische Hof is located in the Kirchgasse ( number 25).
  • The double house for Rosenstock and the vine is located on the market square ( number 7 9). The interior is decorated with stucco Wessobrunner.
  • The arch tower was once the eastern exterior work, which was built after fixing the suburbs in 1437.
  • The achtjochige Thurbrücke of 1487 results because of the natural rock foundations in a crooked line across the river (hence " crooked bridge " ) is one of the most important late medieval bridges of Switzerland.

Events

The Rose Week has been held since 2002 as a festival once a year in Bischofszell instead, so the city describes itself as a city of roses. There are annually counted around 60,000 visitors. 2012 Rose Garden Känzeli was reopened.
