Bishopric of Dorpat

The bishopric of Dorpat was conquered in 1224 as the Estonian place Tharbata by the Teutonic Knights and Dorpat was called. That same year, the seat of the Bishop of Estonia by Leal was moved.

It was first to the archbishopric of Lund, from 1255, however, subordinate to the Archdiocese of Riga. By King Henry VII of bishop was already in 1225 invested with a portion of the diocesan territory as a spiritual territory and raised to the princes of the empire, it was so prince-bishop. After the introduction of the Reformation in 1525 and the spread of the last bishop in 1558 after Russia went out the diocese.

The area came to Poland in 1561 and 1629 in Sweden. 1721 came after the Peace of Nystad with Russia.
