Mount Wilhelm in the Bismarck Mountains

The Bismarck Mountains is the name of a mountain in Papua New Guinea ( former German colony Kaiser-Wilhelms -Land). It is named after Otto von Bismarck, the first Chancellor of the German Empire, named.

The Bismarck Mountains belongs to the central chain of mountains of New Guinea and is located mainly in the province of Madang. The highest peak is Mount Wilhelm at 4,509 m, also the highest peak of Papua New Guinea. To the northwest of Mount Aiome is with a height of 2,845 m. To the east of the mountain springs of the river Ramu, this is the most important river in the province of Madang and is in the lower reaches navigable. To the west rises the Yuat, an important tributary of the Sepik, which orbits the mountains to the west and north.

Parts of the mountains are protected by Bayir River National Park. The mountain range is rarely covered by snow. One of the largest settlements of the mountain rim includes the villages of Bundi and Samiri on the northern edge of the mountain.
