Bissandugu

Bissandougou is a place in the Prefecture Kankan in the east of Guinea, West Africa, on the National Road No. 1, about 50 km south of Kankan. Bissandougou was the capital of the Empire of Samory Touré. Here, the " Treaty of Bissandougou " was signed on 25 March 1887 with the French far-reaching rights to navigation on the Niger was granted and the further was the basis for the subsequent conquest of parts of West Africa. 1891, the city was captured and destroyed by the French colonial troops. Remains of the fortifications are located outside the present-day village.
