Bissektipelta

  • Uzbekistan
  • B. archibaldi ( Averianov, 2002)

Bissektipelta is a little-known genus of bird Beck dinosaur ( Ornithischia ) from the group of Ankylosauria.

So far, only parts of the cranial vault as well as isolated teeth and bone plates ( osteoderms ) found from Bissektipelta. Otherwise, little is known about this dinosaur. Presumably he had for all existing ankylosauruses stocky trunk with an armor of bony plates and short strong legs. Accordingly, he should have moved on all fours ( quadruped ) and feeds on plants.

The fossil remains of Bissektipelta were found in the Bissekty formation in Uzbekistan. First, the findings of the already known genus Amtosaurus were assigned, was known by the Amtosaurus with magnus already a kind of Mongolia. According to studies by Parish and Barrett in 2004 Amtosaurus was declared due to the sparse finds nomen dubium and awarded to the Uzbek finds the new genus Bissektipelta. The name is derived from the locality, the Bissekty lineup, and the Greek πελτα / pelta ( = " sign" ) from. Type species B. archibaldi. The finds are (late Turonian or Coniacian ) dated to the Late Cretaceous to an age 91-86 million years.

Because of sparse finds an exact systematic classification is not possible, therefore, this dinosaur is considered incertae sedis Ankylosauria.
