BitchX

BitchX is a popular free IRC client. The original implementation was a script for ircII. Colten Edwards wrote BitchX then order as a standalone program. BitchX is written in C and is designed as a console application, it works on most Unix -like operating systems.

BitchX supports both IPv6 and SSL, and can connect to multiple servers simultaneously. A deficiency is the UTF -8 support missing.
