Bitetto
Bitetto is a southern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 11,858 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) in the province of Bari, in Puglia. The community is located approximately 13.5 kilometers southwest of Bari.
History
Archaeological finds suggest a settlement from the 4th century before Christ. Under the leadership of Meles from Bari came here in 1011 in a battle against the Byzantines. From 1089 Bitetto II was a bishopric by a bull of Pope Urban. 1798 is off this bishopric. Since 1968 it is a titular.
Traffic
Through the village leads the electrified railway line Bari - Taranto, where the station Bitetto Palo di Colle lies.
