Bitters

As Bitter ( also bitter spirit or Amer ) is called flavored spirits with predominantly bitter taste.

Properties

Bitter have an alcohol by volume content of at least 15%. They are mainly used as an aperitif, digestif or as an ingredient in cocktails.

In addition to agricultural alcohol Bitter typically contain extracts of herbs, citrus, tart berries, Angosturarinde, China bark, anise, quinine.

Product groups and brands

Since the required EU regulation characteristic " bitter taste " is subjective and not clearly defined, the boundaries are blurred. So also sweet, non- bitter alcoholics be counted among the bitters, though they may not be officially designated as such in accordance with EU law, for example, sometimes.
