Bivona

Bivona is a city in the province of Agrigento in the Italian region Sicily.

Location and data

Bivona is 62 km northwest of Agrigento. Here live 3881 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012), who mainly work in agriculture. There are cultivated citrus fruits, wheat, olives and cereals.

The neighboring municipalities are Alessandria della Rocca, Calamonaci, Castronovo di Sicilia ( PA), Cianciana, Lucca sicula, Palazzo Adriano ( PA), Ribera and Santo Stefano Quisquina.

History

Bivona was mentioned in 1172 for the first time. In the 14th century the town was founded and built a fort. 1374 Bivona passed to the family Chiaromontes, then to the Peralta family and the De Luna. 1529 there was a bloody confrontation with the Peralta family from Sciacca and Bivona from.

Attractions
