Bizau

Bizau is a municipality with 1032 inhabitants (December 31, 2013) in the Bregenz district in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg.

Geography

Bizau located, in the Bregenz Forest, southeast of Lake Constance to 681 meters. 42.7 % of the area is forested, 23.8 % of the area are mountainous portion of the Alps. There are no other local villages in Bizau.

The community Bizau has a common municipal boundary with four other municipalities in Vorarlberg, all of which are just as Bizau in the political district Bregenz. The longest common municipal boundary has Bizau in the north with the municipality of Bezau, also borders the municipalities Au, Schnepfau and Reuthe to Bizau. Schönenbach

The approximately 8 kilometers from Bizau remote on Bezau municipality Vorsäß Schönenbach is primarily known for the screw hole cave and his vacation home. For Bizau this actually belongs to Bezau Vorsäß therefore has a special significance because it is only accessible via the traffic- Bizau municipality.

History

The first mention of the town came in a document Goswin von Ems ' from the year 1297th The Habsburgs ruled the areas in Vorarlberg changing of Tyrol and Further Austria from ( Freiburg im Breisgau). From 1805 to 1814, the town belonged to Bavaria, then back to Austria. For the Austrian state of Vorarlberg Bizau heard since the foundation in 1861. The place was from 1945 to 1955 part of the French zone of occupation in Austria.

The municipal council consists of 12 members. The election took place in 2010 not by lists, but by a majority vote. Mayor Josef Bischofberger. The municipality revenue from taxes and other charges in 2001 were at € 927,525, the municipal expenditure at € 1,269,211. The debt was 2001 1.954.076 €.

Culture and sights

There is the barefoot path Bizau moss, which is accessible from the place out. It may be followed hiked and in the adjacent bed of the Ulvenbachs for water rats for water -shy, the different types of soil and grass species, the habitats of various aquatic plants and aquatic life.

Structures

Hirschberg tracks Bizau

In 1970, also in Bizau the tourist boom in the construction of the Hirschberg tracks. At 1436m a panoramic restaurant of Leopold Kaufmann was planned and constructed. Here, the circular motion associated with the railway was used as the basis of design. In the following years was the Bizau ski lift mbH & Co. KG three drag lifts and the summer toboggan run built. As a result of bankruptcy proceedings, the tracks are currently out of service.

Parish Church of St. Valentine

The parish church is located in Kirchdorf and goes back to the year 1472. The chapel has been continually expanded over the centuries to the church and equipped with a peal.

Economy and infrastructure

At the site there were in 2003 23 companies in the industrial sector with 123 employees and 8 apprentices. Taxable wage -employed, there were 407 tourism and tourism - in particular, the summer toboggan run at Hirschberg - are important for the place. In the tourism year 2001/2002 there were a total of 31 084 nights.

Education

In Bizau there is a kindergarten and a school with (as of January 2003) 60 students.
