Bjarte Engen Vik
Bjarte Engen Vik ( born March 3, 1971 in Tromsø) is a former Norwegian Nordic skier. End of the 90s he was one of the best athletes in his sport, where he was able to convince especially in ski jumping. He also was third from 1996 to 2000 Norwegian champion in the Nordic combined and ski jumping once.
Career
Engen Vik was already in his time as a junior for the World's Best combiner. The Juniorenskiweltmeisterschaften 1990 Štrbské Pleso the individual medals remained denied him but with his teammates Halldor Skard, Trond Einar Elden, he won the gold medal.
In the Olympic season 1991/92 he first came into the great new hope of the Norwegian combiner in the World Cup, made his debut on 12 January 1991 Bad Goisern and was twelfth. In the overall World Cup Engen Vik was ranked 17th A season later he landed in Vuokatti first time on the podium in third place in the World Cup and was eleventh. In his first Nordic World Ski Championships 1993 in Falun, he missed narrowly in third place and finished fourth behind his compatriot Trond Einar Elden. In the World Cup season 1993/94 he managed six fourth place and missed each time the third place narrowly. At the World Cup in Trondheim station he won the third place. At the end he came in the World Cup also to fourth place. At the 1994 Winter Olympics in his own country start and won two medals once the silver medal in singles and bronze in the team.
The World Cup season 1994/95 went very well because he came in third in five races, finished second once and the remaining results were two fourth and eleventh place. In the overall standings, Engen Vik had to settle for second place behind the Japanese Kenji Ogiwara. The Nordic World Ski Championships 1995 in Thunder Bay were anything as good, because he won the silver medal in the team and in individual jumped out only the seventh place. The World Cup 1995/96 season began rather moderate as well, but the end of the season he was getting stronger, and he succeeded in Lahti the first World Cup success. In the overall long him again the fourth place. The 1996/97 season began with three second places. He then had a race in Lahti a small weakness phase but with three more wins again could do well in the next in Oslo and Štrbské Pleso. In the overall standings, he was third. In his third Nordic World Ski Championships 1997 in Trondheim Engen Vik won the silver medal in singles and was in the team for the first time world champion.
In the Olympic season 1997/98 he beendetet every race in the top ten. He also won five World Cup stations, was for the first time World Cup overall winner and this was his last at 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano Olympic champion in singles and team. A season later, he was the result of isotopes in the World Cup again and won to nine times a World Cup race and defended to his overall victory from last year sovereign. In the sprint he finished in second place. Were present for his penultimate Nordic World Ski Championships 1999 in Ramsau also very successful because he was in singles and sprint world champion and the silver medal in the team jumped out. Even in his penultimate World Cup season 1999/2000 he succeeded again and again results in the top ten, and among them were four World Cup victories, five second and four third places. At the end of the season was overall in the second place there and was again second in the sprint. The last World Cup season 2000/ 01 started with a 44th place in Kuopio, after Engen Vik was back to its former strength and was ten times on the podium. In the overall standings, he was for the second time after 1997 a third party. The last Nordic World Ski Championships 2001 in Lahti, he was crowned again in singles and team world champion in sprint and he was ninth. In April 2001, Vik finished surprising his career, citing motivation problems and had setbacks time and again during his active career, for he had no less than five times dislocated his shoulder, once broken his leg.
Private
In between he lives with his girlfriend Eve and the daughter born in the summer of 2000 Elise mostly in Trondheim. In an Easter trip he and Kristian Hammer was caught by an avalanche, both remained there unharmed. He also survived the fire of his apartment a few years ago without prejudice.
