Björn Landström

Björn Olof Landström August (* April 21, 1917 in Kuopio, † January 7, 2002 in Helsinki ) was a Finland Swede, who became known for his books on the history of navigation awareness.

Björn Landström was born in 1917 in Kuopio, the son of the engineer Artur Landström. He moved in 1937 to Stockholm, where he studied at the Reklamkonstskolan. He was a soldier in World War II and afterwards wrote a play, which had little success.

He became internationally known in 1961 with the book The ship, which was translated into several languages ​​. Another success was the ships of the Pharaohs: Egyptian Art shipbuilding 4000-600 BC (1970, in German 1974), which had the ancient Egyptian shipbuilding on the topic. Both books are richly illustrated by Landström.
