Bjørn Kruse

Bjørn Kruse Howard ( born August 14, 1946 in London) is a Norwegian composer and jazz musician.

Kruse grew up in England, the USA and Norway. He studied 1967-68 at the University of California, Los Angeles and Norges musikkhøgskole ( 1972-77 ). He worked 1968-1971 as a professional musician in the United States and has lived since 1972 as a composer in Norway. Twenty years he was here also active as a jazz saxophonist, composer, and arranger, producer and studio musician.

For the television opera Et Sjakkspill Kruse was awarded the 1983 television opera prize of the city of Salzburg. Two other operas and his saxophone concert have been awarded by the Norwegian Association of Composers NOPA as works of the year. At the Cairo International Festival for Experimental Theatre 's opera Tvilling was declared the best work. As a festival composer Kruse was Festspillene i Nord -Norge (1994 ), involved the Vinterfestspill i Bergstaden (2003 ) and the Risr Chamber Music Festival ( 2005).

Since 1976, Kruse teaches at the Norges musikkhøgskole composition and music drama. He has published several books on music theory.
