Black Canyon City is a census -designated place in Yavapai County in the U.S. state of Arizona.

Location

The place is located in central Arizona's Agua Fria River at the south of the Agua Fria National Monument and near the border between Yavapai County and Maricopa County. About Interstate 17 one is fast in the big city of Phoenix.

History

Black Canyon City had different names in the past; as it was called at times Coddard, Canon or Black Canyon. It was a Postkutschenstoport on the Phoenix - Prescott line. Passengers between Fort Whipple and Fort Verde also came by here.

Black Canyon was the gateway to the high plateau and the mountains. The Woolsey Trail got its name from King Woolsey, an early settler who grew up here in the middle of 1860 with the first settlers in wagons. At the beginning of 1872 through the rest area located on the Agua Fria River, and Jack Swillings Ranch founded the village. The horse-drawn connection between Phoenix and Prescott was discontinued in 1917. During the twenties Black Canyon City was supplied with electrical energy, they came from the Kay Copper Mine, which closed its doors in 1929. Personalities
